For anyone who is eyelash extension-obsessed, making them last longer is a must. At Luxe Lashes London, we want all you lash lovers to be confident in your eyelash extension aftercare and so we are sharing 5 top tips that will help you maintain your eyelash extensions, ensuring they stay Luxe for longer.

1. KEEP THEM CLEAN

Fortunately, water is not one of the things that needs to be avoided with eyelash extensions, as once they are properly cured, they become relatively waterproof. Many assume that as the aftercare advice requests that you steer clear of getting your eyelash extensions wet in the first 24 hours of having them applied, this means do not get them wet, ever. However, this is not the case, as you will need to get them wet regularly to enable proper cleansing. There are a number of problems that can arise from improper cleansing, this includes your eyelash extensions not lasting as long as they should.

The most effective way to clean your eyelash extensions is to use an eyelash extension friendly cleanser. At Luxe Lashes London, we provide a number of aftercare products, including a Lash Foaming Cleanser & Cleansing Brush Set. This set is specially designed for deep eyelash cleansing, encouraging essential hygiene and conditioning of the eye area, whilst avoiding interference with eyelash extension bonds. Alternatively, you may use an oil and glycol-free make up remover. Here are instructions to cleaning your eyelash extensions, step by step:

  • Remove all eye make up using the cleansers recommended above. If removing eyeliner, dip a cotton bud in the cleanser and wipe across or away from your eyelid and never towards your eyelash extensions. Avoid using cotton balls, as they could catch on your extensions.
  • Use cool water to wet your eyelashes. Dispense a small amount of cleanser and lather it up in the palm of your hand before applying it to your eye area, one eye at a time. Ensure your eyes are closed and ever so gently massage the cleanser over your eyelashes using the Lash Cleansing Brush or your finger.
  •  Rinse the cleanser off with cool water and dab your eyelashes dry.
  • Take your wand and gently brush your eyelashes to separate them. Twirl through your eyelashes, then fan them back out.

Please note:
For the best results, follow these steps 2- 3 times a week and if you wear a lot of make up, cleanse daily. It's important that you do not clean your eyelash extensions within the first 24 hours of having them applied, as mentioned in the Luxe Lashes London Aftercare Advice.

2. AVOID OIL BASED PRODUCTS

Oil-based products are unfortunately the enemy of eyelash extensions as they attack all eyelash adhesives, so it is essential that you are aware that many creams and cosmetics contain oil. When selecting or using products on your face and eye area, ensure they are labeled oil-free. Additionally, if you fail to wash your eyelash extensions, natural oils will build up and slowly start eating away at the eyelash adhesive. The less oil on your eyelash extensions, the more they will last.

3. WEAR NO MASCARA (OR VERY LITTLE)

The beauty of eyelash extensions is that they give you longer and fuller lashes without the need for mascara. However, we know that some of you still want to wear mascara, even if only occasionally. It is highly recommended you use a mascara that is formulated for eyelash extensions. Although, when is comes to extending the life of them, it is miles better to avoid mascara altogether. If you decide to wear normal mascara this should be water-based, not to be confused with waterproof mascara. Lastly, try to use one coat and apply it to the tips of your eyelash extensions.

4. SLEEP ON YOUR BACK

This tip will come as bad news to some of you stomach-sleepers. Sleeping with your face down to the pillow is likely to cause some eyelash extension loss so if you can, try to sleep on your back. This way, they will be untouched as you snooze.

5. ARRANGE REGULAR INFILLS

All of the tips mentioned above are key to caring for your eyelash extensions but this is the most important! Maintaining regular infill appointments every 2-3 weeks will have your eyelashes looking their very best. The longer you wait to have your infills carried out, the harder it is for your Lash Expert to keep your lashes appearing full and flawless. Also, waiting too long to get your infill may lead to you requiring a full set instead. With that being said, we advise that Luxe Lashes London clients book their appointments in advance to avoid disappointment.

So there you have it! Following these top tips will have you thriving in your eyelash extension aftercare. Contact us for more information or book your Luxe Lash appointment online.
